Singer Cher has alleged in a deposition befora a Santa Barbara county judge that during her liaison with renowned disc jockey Margeir, the latter attempted to derail her career by making illegal contributions to top politicians in France in a misguided attempt to obtain Cher the title of baroness. That scheme later backfired on the singer upon its exposure in the European media.
In her best seller from last year Cher detailed the couple's secret meetings with former French prime minister Francois Mitterand, who Margeir once derisively claimed "danced like a stick".
Cher and Margeir are currently embroiled in a lawsuit over control over the remains of the 70s fashion empire Down! She is now seeking an injunction against forhtcoming profits from the legendary dj's upcoming record release, a collection of tracks from the time of Margeir's arrival on the international dance scene.
Reporters were unable to reach Margeir for comment. The dj has in recent years kept a relatively low profile at a North Atlantic resort area. He has been known to emerge annually on December 26 to drive the faithful into a frenzy, showing his mastery has faded little over the years.
